Welcome to
Bedford County
Welcome to Bedford County
Bedford County is an incredible place to live. Beautiful surroundings, small towns rich with history, friendly neighbors and a strong sense of community all combine to make this special place. We have just lived through one of the most difficult years in living memory, and while the personal losses and economic impacts on some have been devastating, our community rose to the challenge. We supported one another, we supported our local businesses, and we moved ahead in every way we could. The most visible example of this was our construction of the Silver Lining Drive-in, which we detail here. It is a spectacular example of the strength, resilience and spirit of our community. It should remind us all of what we have accomplished together, even when we need to stay separated due to the pandemic.
Drawn here by our scenic landscape full of open spaces to explore, visitors enjoy touring our country roads, lined with a seemingly endless line of farms and pastures full of cows, horses, sheep, and even bison. Along the way they discover woolen mills, former stagecoach stops and taverns, and modern day trading posts. Of course, no trip to Bedford is complete without visiting the Omni Bedford Springs, our grand resort, restored to its former glory when it was the playground of the nation’s wealthiest families.
Relax on the Raystown branch of the Juniata River which is ideal for kayaking, or visit our state parks, trails and bike paths. You’ll be delighted by the history that lines our roadsides, the covered bridges that span local streams, and the wide variety of barns, log cabins and stone inns that tell the story of a nation growing out of the frontier.
Our towns are filled with buildings that date back to the colonial period. Bedford, Everett, Breezewood and the many smaller communities throughout the county each have their own unique vibe and we encourage you to spend time exploring all of them.
While history is an important part of Bedford County’s culture, the business community here is all about the present. Home to world-class companies, many Bedford County firms are leaders in their respective fields, in industries as diverse as agriculture, mining, construction, fabrication and logistics. The Bedford County Chamber of Commerce continues to work toward an even brighter future, spearheading leadership development targeted at assisting fresh talent to take the reins in the future.
