Youth Leadership Bedford County (YLBC) Class of 2026
The Bedford County Chamber Foundation forges into its second quarter-century filled with excitement to share leadership, literacy, and career exploration programs with 6,000 local students, from pre-school through twelfth grades.
“Our goal is to make sure that the workforce of the future grows up knowing all of the opportunities available to them,” said Chamber President-CEO Kellie Goodman Shaffer, “from places to work, play, worship, volunteer, and live life to the fullest.”
With that mission in mind, Foundation programs are designed to make connections between the business community and local students in all grades, Pre-K through 12, serving all of the county’s school districts as well as charter, parochial, and homeschooled students. From Community Reading Day and Touch-a-Truck to 5th Grade Career Field Day and the 7th Grade Agriculture Career Fair to the Business Community and Career Showcase, and BASICS Steps to Success, local youth are provided with many opportunities to meet community leaders and explore businesses, organizations and experiences of the Bedford County region.
Businesses invest in our efforts through volunteer support, corporate sponsorships, and the Commonwealth’s Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) program, providing tax incentives for participating companies.
“We could not be more grateful for the generosity of our business community,” added Goodman Shaffer, “not only for financial contributions, but also for the time, talent, expertise, and energy so willingly shared with the young people of our county. It is inspiring to see local leaders interacting with the next generation, and opening doors of opportunity to them.”
Fundraising efforts of the Foundation provide unique experiences for local families, from the Holiday Nights of Lights to concerts featuring our talented friends from the Ireland touring group, Celtic Thunder.
