EXPLORE
Bedford County is a year-round playground for outdoor lovers, with activities suited to every pace and interest. Golfers enjoy several fine courses, including the historic Old Course at Omni Bedford Springs Resort – one of America’s oldest, dating to 1895 and beautifully restored.
State parks like Shawnee, Blue Knob, Warriors Path, and Trough Creek give you everything from rolling lakeside trails to mountain ridges and hidden waterfalls. Shawnee State Park offers nearly 4,000 acres of wooded beauty centered on a 451-acre lake perfect for boating, swimming, and fishing.
The recently expanded Shuster Way Heritage Trail – now about 3.9 miles – connects Omni Bedford Springs through downtown Bedford to Old Bedford Village, making for an easy, scenic walk rich in history.
Bikers appreciate the Huntingdon and Broad Top Rail Trail, recently lengthened to around 13 miles and now reaching Warriors Path State Park for smooth, family-friendly rides.
Vast public lands welcome exploration and hunting seasons, while campgrounds range from cozy cabins to full-hookup RV sites, some featuring swimming pools, mini golf, and other family amenities.
The annual Bedford County Fair in July celebrates our agricultural roots with rides, exhibits, livestock shows, and classic family fun.
The county’s four distinct seasons shine brightest in fall, when vibrant foliage paints the ridges. The Bedford Fall Foliage Festival – our biggest event and a major draw across central and western Pennsylvania – attracts tens of thousands over two weekends (October 3-4 and 10-11 in 2026) for crafts, food, parades, and autumn celebration in downtown Bedford.
History runs deep here – stone mills, stagecoach taverns, fourteen covered bridges still standing – and it predates the nation itself. The America 250 celebrations in 2026 will spotlight Bedford County’s role in that story. Come explore – there’s always a trail, a fairway, or a scenic spot waiting.
